Golf is a game that appeals to all ages and a golfing break can be a great way to keep young golfers busy and stimulated during a family holiday. However, finding courses where children can have access is often tricky and online guides are few and far between. Using a little care though and with a little research, it is possible to enjoy a golfing break with your kids in the UK.

Scotland is, of course, the home of golf and heading to the capital city, Edinburgh, is highly recommended whether you enjoy golf or not. The city is a picturesque capital, packed with some of Scotland`s most important and historic buildings and there are plenty of places to eat, drink and enjoy yourself.

The city also has Junior Golf schemes run by Edinburgh Leisure, who operate six courses in the city. Their junior summer pass is very good value and entitles holders to use the courses. There is also a Kids` Friday scheme in operation, where children can play on the courses between 1pm and 5pm every Friday.

Although Edinburgh may be Scotland`s official capital, when it comes to golf, it is fair to say that St Andrews is its spiritual home. Up on the Fife coast, there is plenty to see around the old town, which is famous for its connections with Protestant Reformer John Knox and its highly-rated university, as well as its gold courses.

The St Andrews Links Junior Golf Association also exists to help promote the game to young people. They operate a series of coaching sessions and other activities during school holidays, so are worth looking at as an option. The St Andrews Golf School also offers junior coaching sessions.

Yorkshire is England`s largest county and offers a great deal in the way of both urban and rural activities. There are many golf clubs in the area which offer facilities for junior members, with many venues also offering some superb coaching sessions.

Knaresborough Golf Club in North Yorkshire has a Young Masters Golf program in operation which sees youngsters coached by club professionals. Detailed inquiries should be made to the club about what specifically they can offer.

Wales has its fair share of beautiful countryside and culture to keep any kind of holiday maker happy. The good news is that there is also a massive range of high quality golf courses.

Gower, in south west Wales, was Britain`s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there is a great course located here which offers summer coaching courses to juniors. While the youngsters are practicing their swings, any adults who do not like golf can find plenty to see in Gower or nearby Swansea.

Although they are not that easy to find, at least on the surface, it is possible to find golf courses where families can enjoy a golfing holiday together. Thankfully for any golfing widows about the place they are also usually in places where there is plenty to if you do not enjoy swinging a club.
